HGTV has chosen Schaffer's Mill in Truckee as the newest location for the 18th annual Dream Home Giveaway. Last year 77 million dreamers entered the sweepstakes for a chance to win a home on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. This year people are already gearing up for the $2 million package that includes the 3,200-square-foot Lake Tahoe ski home. About 10 minutes from Northstar ski area, the home is billed as an example of "New Mountain Architecture," which means a lot of glass, steel frames, and indoor/outdoor living. Builders just finished construction and apparently living in the mountains is a lot like living in the apocalypse. HGTV designed the home to be earthquake-proof, able to withstand a 100-year snowstorm, fire-resistant, and bear-proof.
