Inside a Valentino Honcho's $18.5M Manhattan Penthouse

New, 7 comments

Is it any wonder that the penthouse belonging to fashion mogul Giancarlo Giammetti is this luxurious and stylish? Valentino Garavani's longtime business and life partner, formerly the chairman of Valentino, invited Arch Digest over for a peek at his sleek Manhattan penthouse, which he bought back for $18.5M in 2010 and has since enlisted Jacques Grange—the French interior designer who worked on Garavani's own home—to decorate. While some of the furnishings and accessories here might be recognizable from the last NYC apartment Giammetti sold off—namely, paintings by Picasso, David Hockney, and Cy Twombly—Grange custom-created lush new seating and covered many of the walls in Indian mica, creating a warm, subtly glitzy ambience. "I love rooms with a darker feeling," Giammetti says. "New York is a city of light and views, but I wanted a compromise between that openness and my love of warmer, darker tones."
