Place a Bid on This Green Private Island With Rockstar Cred

New, 7 comments

Just 30 minutes north of Key West sits Melody Key, a six-acre private island housing a single, ultra-luxurious estate owned up until 2011 by Nick Hexum, lead singer of the apparently quite lucrative stoner rock band 311. The island will go on auction on Nov. 11 with a starting bid of $3.5M, as steal considering the home recently underwent a $2.5M renovation. Boasting Swiss Family Robinson-style exteriors, the three-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot pad—which comes with a pool, Jacuzzi, and palm-shaded gazebos aplenty—is perhaps one of the greenest private island homes out there, running on solar power and "a large bank of batteries." Even the water supply is treated by a desalination system on-site, leaving approximately zero reasons to ever venture back to the main land; as the brokerbabble says, "Why not sit watching the sun setting with a cocktail, feast on fresh seafood fished from the surrounding waters, or just recline on a hammock suspended between two palm trees, simply unwinding and letting go with the outgoing tide. You will be, after all, on Melody Island time." Sit back, crank up the 311, and by all means, do have a look:
