Gizmodo has a fascinating peek inside Real Estate Subdivisions, a 1949 book whose 750-entry appendix helped developers name, well, their real estate subdivisions. Among the list are words strung together to create a sense of calm idyll: Hawthorne Grove, Ivy Farm, Ivywood, Sequoia Park, Shadylane, Windsor, Wingate. Cute, but not nearly as fun as checking "generate negative names" and wasting a few hours with the spoof site Real Estate Subdivision Name Generator. [Gizmodo]
