New, 2 comments

Presenting Curbed's Rental Redo, a Renters Week 2013 contest wherein creative, ambitious, and deserving renters are given the chance to score $2,500 to the home furnishings store of their choice simply by outlining what they'd like to do with their lackluster, hodgepodge, or underfunded spaces. Over the next few days, the finalists' entries and testimonials will unfold right here; on Friday, they'll face off in a countrywide poll. We'll crown the winner on Mon., Nov. 25.

Meet Kim, who moved to San Francisco in March and currently lives in a "sunny studio in the Lower Haight," she emails. "Since moving to San Francisco, after a year of traveling the developing world with just a backpack, all the furniture was handed down from the last owner—except for my bed, which was a housewarming present after the blow-up bed blew up. My old apartment in DC was a tapestry of my personality and an extension of myself—I miss that!"

Here's Kim's abbreviated vision (illustrated in the photogallery ↓):
"I'd love to use this opportunity to bring my experience on the road into my home. To feel grounded, yet surround myself with reminders of distant lands. Inspired by vibrant colors from Southeast Asia and India and the textures and rustic woodwork of East Africa, here are a few snapshots of what my apartment is and what it could be!"
