Julia Morgan will be the first woman in 70 years to earn (posthumously, of course) the AIA Gold Medal, the American Institute of Architects' highest award. Morgan, the architect behind the Hearst Castle and some 700—yes, seven hundred—other buildings throughout her long and illustrious career, was described as "an architect's architect" by Frank Gehry in his letter of recommendation.
