Inspired by his hometown of Memphis, Tenn., and the "decaying" homes and neighborhoods he grew up around, artist Jared Small devoted his time and fair amount of painting prowess to lovingly capture Southern Gothic-style houses. Similar to other architecturally-minded artists—particularly those other mind-bogglingly realistic painters—Small's work celebrates the little details, down to the peeling paint, crumbling exteriors, and weather-streaked brick. Paired with unfinished, abstract backgrounds, the images take on a rather surreal, almost stormy ominous feel. Indeed the end result finds the work somewhere between quaint and moody, like post cards left out in the rain. A few more, below.
