Blackbomb's new high-speed quad, the Crystal Ridge Express, opened over the weekend to a big crowd willing to brave freezing cold temperatures. The new lift is part of $18 million in upgrades at the two Canadian mountains and Crystal Ridge is Blackcomb's first expansion to its lift system since 1994. Construction took 9 months, required the installation of 20 towers and the stringing of 119 chairs. The new high-speed quad replaces an old triple chairlift and allows for a more skiers and riders to get up the mountain more quickly. The Harmony 6 Express, also part of the upgrades at Whistler this year, is set to open Saturday, December 14.
