Gizmodo recently discovered a 400,000-piece Lego replica of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The plastic-brick behemoth is so big, it could supposedly fit the (admittedly quite tiny) Harry Potter actor, Daniel Radcliffe, inside its walls—that is, if the place wasn't already filled to bursting with Hogwarts props, creatures, and students. Seattle-based Lego builder Alice Finch took 12 months to build the replica, a 13-foot mass that includes the castle proper, the school's grounds, the greenhouses, and Hagrid's hut. Like most Lego masterpieces—including the 20,000-piece Batcave and 100-pound Ghostbusters HQ—Finch's project is laden with incredible details: candles float in the Great Hall; rows of bottles, funghi, and frogs clutter the potions classroom; and it looks like accident-prone (at least in the movies) Seamus Finnigan is about to muck up in Charms class again. The place is even rife with non-witches and wizards, like Peeves the poltergeist, Buckbeak the hippogriff, thestrals, and Cornish pixies.
Here's how it started, as Finch tells The Brothers Brick: "After a year or so of getting back in the building groove, I started collecting the Harry Potter sets, but I soon realized I was not satisfied with them ... I've been to many of the places in Oxford where they filmed and I knew what they really looked like and I wanted to build my own version that was architecturally accurate with 4 walls and a roof, minifigs scale, and also playable for big and little hands."
