Actor Jason Bateman Buys Ernest Borgnine's Home for $3M

New, 15 comments

Actor Jason Bateman—he of Arrested Development, Horrible Bosses, and Juno—has snatched up the Beverly Hills estate of late Hollywood pooh-bah Ernest Borgnine. Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka, dropped $3M on the place, which, while dark and dated—Borgnine lived in there for nearly six decades, after all—includes lots of outdoor space, a wood-paneled library and bar, and a guest house. Plus, there's a gazebo and potentially grandiose entryway, with a "staircase perfect for prom pictures," or so says The Real Estalker. In all, the six-bedroom estate—flush with chintz, awkward window treatments, and mint-green carpeting—is in need of some major interiors upgrades, but $3M for 6,148 square feet above Mulholland Drive is not an ungodly sum, so there's probably wiggle room in the budget for a much-needed refresher. The home was designed by architect L.G. Scherer in 1938 and listed for $3.395M in September, a few months after Borgnine died at age 95. Above: check out the property, including the strange tree-branch breakfast room and the latticed dressing area that looks like it was plucked from a 1970s decor catalog.
