Music Exec to Sell Kid's Dream Room Out from Under Him

New, 1 comment

The $3.9M Connecticut mansion currently listed by music exec Mike Shalett looks like so many other suburban megamansions—with the home theater, the dual kitchen islands, the den, and a double-height foyer—but at least his young son probably thinks its the greatest house of all time. Why? Well, because he's got the run of a gargantuan kid's room, complete with elevated bed platform, executive-size desk, walls of closets, giant windows, and a neon sign that proudly displays his name. Shalett made his fortune from founding Soundscan, the industry standard system for measuring music sales, and purchased 8.5 acres in Ridgefield, Conn. for just $280K. He then spent much more to create this estate, known as Melody Ridge, with nearly 15,000 square feet, five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a recording studio, a gym, a mahogany library, and the extraordinary grounds, which include a pool house, swimming pool, and putting green.
