Location: Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The Skinny: After returning from service as a combat airman in World War II, James J. Shea, Jr. settled into a business with a focus on family fun, the board game developer Milton Bradley. Shea's father had rescued the company from bankruptcy in 1941 and the younger Shea presided over classics like Candyland, Operation, and Battleship, before overseeing the sale of the company to competitor Hasbro. Following the sale, Shea spent most of his time in the sun at his Rancho Mirage, Calif. home, which is now offered by his estate for $1.55M. The five-bedroom, six-bath house is surrounded by towering palm trees, boasts an idyllic swimming pool and patio, and manages to squeeze 5,400 square feet into its low-slung frame.
