Kingpin of affordable footwear Steve Madden is asking $8.995M for his 6,040-square-foot, six-floor house in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Madden and his wife have been picking up pieces of the townhouse since they snagged the first unit for $3.6M in 2006. The next unit came in at $2.2M—"We just wanted the place. We overpaid," he once said—and the final piece, which they bought in December 2012, rang in at $1.9M. That adds up to $7.7M in parcel purchases, including room for six bedrooms, two terraces, and a garden. The house also boasts a brokerbabbly estate name; "Blacksmith House" was originally built in 1860, and saved from demolition in 1896 by a blacksmith who proved himself invaluable by providing for the stables and carriage houses once near East 73rd Street. Anyway, the outside may be a flat beige, but peek inside and find lots of Easter-y pastels, including large lavender living rooms and a turquoise bedroom. Also seen inside: what The Real Estalker dubs the "crazy-ass and all but unsolvable floorplan," a consequence of owning a property that was once cracked into several units. It's all above.
