Get excited, folks - California's Welk Resorts just put out plans for a 126-unit timeshare resort on the North end of Breckenridge on 6.5 acres on Shores Lane, on a plot that's been slated for development for several years. The plans are for a mix of one-bedroom suites and one and two bedroom villas and will feature the standard mix of ski-resort amenities, including a fitness center, game room, movie room, a snake-life indoor-outdoor pool, hot tub and barbecue areas, and those dumb heated outdoor walkways, as keeping winter at an arm's distance is far more preferable than actually dealing with it.
The developers are also batty about creating a "narrative" of the project that ties to the history of the former mining mogul who lived on the property in a past era. The design of the original ranch hand bunkhouse is supposed to serve as inspiration for the housekeeping building that will have affordable housing units for property workers, the "notion" of the former horse barn will inspire a meetings facility with a sales office and sundries shop, and the main lobby will be built around one of the only remnants of the original property, a large central fireplace.
