On the very day Homeland actress Claire Danes and her actor/model husband Hugh Dancy found a buyer for their digs in downtown Manhattan, which they sold for $5.85M, the pair laid down $6.876M for a four-story, 19th-century townhouse in the city's West Village neighborhood. According to The Real Estalker, the home was previously owned by psychiatrist David Shaffer, best known for his 15-year marriage to the "famously autocratic Vogue head honcho Anna Wintour." Shaffer tried to sell the place for as much as $8.3M in 2009—a great year for real estate, as we all know—and though ultimately he didn't rake in quite as much as he hoped for, considering he bought the 3,166-square-foot Greek Revival for just $1.7M in 1999, he's still making a tidy profit.
So what was Danes drawn to? Well, the four-bedroom house has a comfortable, homey feel, with blond wood floors, loads of bookshelves, a garden out back, an open kitchen, and a master bedroom that takes over an entire floor. Take a tour above, and find floor plans over at Curbed NY.
