Dwell recently toured Brooklyn's Tighthouse, NYC's first certified passive house, which boasts 20-inch-thick insular walls, triple-glazed windows, and fiberglass cornices. Of course, making a passive brownstone means first and foremost axing the actual stone, replacing it with a thick sandwich-style envelope of stucco over foam: "When knocked, it sounds entirely hollow."
