Virginia Manor Designed by Thomas Jefferson to Be Auctioned

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Spring Grove, Va.
Price: TBD
The Skinny: Offered for just the third time since 1607, the 4,487-acre Brandon Plantation will go to auction on June 23rd, and sell to the highest bidder. The massive Virginia estate is centered around a brick manor house designed, at least "substantially," by none other than President Thomas Jefferson. Located just 120 miles from Jefferson's masterpiece, Monticello, the mansion boasts seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms, while the listing has all sorts of superlatives to support the sale. "The oldest continuous agricultural operation in the U.S.," the auctioneers declare. "Shakespeare's daughter and a survivor of the Titanic each had a part of this breathtaking plantation's history." In fairness, that's all much more impressive than the usual brokerbabble hogwash. Plus, the estate boasts no fewer than "11 other residential homes, 14 farm structures and 3.5 miles of James River frontage."
