Exploring Israel's Staggeringly Expensive Luxury Real Estate

New, 10 comments

Despite the ever-present threat of regional conflict, Israel has been enjoying a surge in real estate prices of late, driven by the country's booming high tech industry and a limited supply of prime property. Of course, on the very high end, builders are wooing buyers with over-the-top amenities that help to justify the sky-high prices. Take this outrageous triplex penthouse located atop the W Hotel in Tel Aviv. Listed for $12.5M, the 4,000-square-foot unit boasts three bedrooms, four bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling glass, an expansive walk-out terrace (on the 44th floor), a private elevator, and, to top it all off, a private rooftop swimming pool. As if that wasn't enough, glass portals in the bottom of the pool allow indoor loungers to view swimmers from below.

? Set on the upper reaches of a stone tower in Jerusalem, this ancient-meets-modern penthouse carries the very contemporary price tag of $16M. Blessed with sweeping views of the Old City, including the Temple Mount, this 4,500-square-foot penthouse includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The building, attended by a 24-hour doorman, is chock full of amenities with an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, and plenty of underground parking.

? Views seem to be driving much of the high-end pricing, as this 3,300-square-foot, $18M condominium can attest. Serviced by a private elevator, the seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom Tel Aviv spread mixes styles in the interiors to detrimental effect, but makes no mistake with the unobstructed views of the Mediterranean. Despite the vistas, selling an $18M property with a red lips-shaped urinal in the master bathroom might be a challenge, even in Tel Aviv's red hot market.

? Heading to the countryside isn't any cheaper. This "Bali-style resort estate" in Bnei Zion, north of Tel Aviv, is listed for $15M, a price that includes six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, 8,500 square feet of interiors, and seven acres of park-like grounds. "Ideal for for a true equestrian," the property has horse stables and a riding arena and is located not far from the tech-rich city of Herzliya.

? Though not yet complete, this beach-view Tel Aviv penthouse is already trying for $12.4M, thanks to a series of enticing renderings. The planned four-bedroom duplex would come equipped with a rooftop terrace and swimming pool, two additional balconies, four exposures, and walls of glass facing the sea. Meanwhile, the boutique building is set to offer a private garden for the buyers of its three exclusive units.
