Cher's 1.7-acre compound perched on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, which was officially listed for $45M in 2008, taken off the market, and has been most recently shopped around as a quiet pocket listing for $41M, may have finally found its saviors: Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Perez Hilton drops the rumor today, breathlessly exclaiming, "Who knew that Cher and Queen Bey had similar taste in real estate!?!"
The 13,126-square-foot Italian Renaissance-style mansion with stone walls and floors, a stamped-copper dining-room ceiling, and six bedrooms, was done up by designer Ron Wilson and described by Cher in a 2002 Arch Digest feature as "my sanctuary, my fortress, really—the only place I have any privacy," said the singer. "I'm comfortable here. This house wraps its arms around me." No word yet how a $7,500 Swarovski-studded clawfoot tub or a $3,500 Lucite crib will fare in these dramatic, opulent interiors.
If this rumor turns out to be true—and the ever-reliable Real Estalker remains skeptical—the sale will close one chapter of Beyonce and Jay-Z's recent house-hunting whirlwind. The couple was recently spotted touring Michael Jackson's old estate, Neverland Ranch, and looking at Ricky Martin's mansion in Miami.
The sale would close one chapter of Cher's recent real estate wheelings and dealings, as well—the pop icon has such a penchant for buying and decorating mansions that there's actually a full slideshow on the Architectural Digest site devoted to just this cause. And so it continues: she's just sold the Los Angeles condo she listed earlier this year—that one's decorated in an "Indian fantasy" style by big-time designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Also on the market, for $1.89M, is her modern home in nearby Venice Beach.
