Fire Season Underway in Colorado

The 200-acre Royal Gorge Fire, a smaller lightning-induced fire in Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as a 12-square mile fire near Colorado Springs and a fourth near Canon City mark the official start to the summer wildfire season in Colorado, which starts in June this year despite above-average spring precipitation. Over 2,300 homes and 7,000 people have already been evacuated, including 900 convicts from a Front Range prison. Record-breaking heat of up to the high 90's in Denver, along with high winds and thunderstorms, have all combined to precipitate the fires. Yikes.
