Saying Goodbye

The Telluride-area SMARTS Park (San Miguel Area Resource Recovery Transfer Station) has announced it's closing down its operations due to a lack of funding. The SMARTS Park is a non-profit that was designed to gather normally non-recyclable refuse like construction waste, electronics, and even skis, and recycle it for local use. Over the last year, the SMARTS Park recycled two million pounds of local refuse and sent it to remanufacturing facilities, but owner Johnathan Greenspan wasn't able to get the funding he needed from local officials to keep it open, and that "the commodities market has dropped through the floor."
