Vanity Price on L.A.'s Le Palais No Obstacle to Uzbek Heiress

The Beverly Hills spec mansion known, ever modestly, as Le Palais was once asking an astounding $58M, but in more proof that some sky-high asking prices are just part of an elaborate marketing scheme, it sold for more than $25M less. The $32.75M price was paid by Lola Karimova-Tillaeva, the daughter of Uzbekistan's president/dictator Islam Karimov. The massive mansion was developed by Mohamed Hadid and features seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, "a ballroom, a hammam with hand-carved Egyptian limestone columns, and a 50 seat movie theater" in 48,000 square feet. All that wasn't enough to secure the original asking price, but chances are Hadid didn't need that extra $25M to make a hefty profit on this property.
