Built by designer Stephen Nickel as a test bed for new construction techniques, this white-on-white house on the Spanish island of Mallorca combines two contemporary trends—the passive house and prefabricated buildings—into one island paradise. Walls of glass, radiant heating, a whole-home ventilation system, double glazed windows, and a private well provide the green features, while a long lap pool, windowed sauna, and double-sided fireplace offer some luxury. The four-bedroom, three-bath house, which sits on 4.2 arid acres, was completed last year, but similar houses could apparently be constructed in just a few days.
