Designed by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei in collaboration with HHF Architects, a Swiss firm, this unconventional upstate New York compound was completed in 2006 and listed for sale last year with an asking price of $4.25M. Despite nearly five months on the market without a buyer, the sellers stuck to their initial ask and appear to have found a buyer. The final sale price is not yet known, but the three-bed, three-bath house and studio—the only residence designed by the famous artist in the United States—probably didn't suffer the indignity of a low-ball bid. Nestled on a bucolic 37-acre lot near Beacon, the property is a two-hour drive from Manhattan.
