Aspen Vice

Ending a bizarre saga to reign in Aspen's "over the hill" drug gang, former resident Montgomery Chitty was sentenced to 20 years in jail for his role in a cocaine distribution ring that extended to California. The sentence was more than twice that of the combined sentences of three other men arrested in the case, owing in part to Chitty's 1990 conviction for marijuana smuggling in Louisiana. Chitty was a friend of both Hunter S. Thompson and Ed Bradley, a former consultant to the Democratic party, as well as a friend to a succesion of Aspen sheriffs. [Aspen Daily News]
