A midnight blaze Monday burned down four building at Whistler Blackcomb's Base II on Blackcomb Mountain, and by the time firefighters arrived, they were only able to keep the blaze from spreading to elsewhere; saving the buildings themselves was a lost cause. The fires spread rapidly through a paint shop, wood shop, and chemical storage area. The rest of the building space was taken up by an operations offices, the sign shop, the building maintenance workshop, the reservations call centre and pass administration working areas. According to Pique Magazine, Whistler Blackcomb said the fire will not impact opening day preparations, or the ongoing work on the Harmony 6 or Crystal Ridge chairlift projects.
