7 years since it began, construction is still far from finished up at Snowmass Village's expanding base village. A roundabout on Brush Creek Road, that had been supposed would be put it across the street from the Conoco station by 2007, has not seen the light of day, and the hotel site that SkiCo has eyed for a second Limelight Hotel (instead of a second Little Nell) can't be certified for occupancy until the roundabout is built. Of course, SkiCo doesn't even yet own the land at Building 5, but has announced it'd like to buy back some of Related WestPac's property at the base for $169 million. According to Aspen Journalism, plans for Building 8, a pile of rebar hidden behind a fake facade, should be revealed by year's end when a major planned-unit development application is due to be submitted to the town to move forward on construction of the unfinished base village.
The Viceroy is set to construct 67 ski-in/ski-out luxury units to its spread along Assay Hill next year, and for this year, guests can look forward to a new restaurant in the former Sneaky's Tavern spot and an expanded ski shop in the Red Barn building.
