NIMBY Fever on the Cape; Falmouth's $6 Million Bet; & More!

CAPE COD - Does proximity to the canal cause NIMBY-fever? "After medical marijuana rode a wave of popular support into the law books last November, cities and towns have passed a flurry of measures aimed at slowing down the new industry's approach or defining where marijuana dispensaries can set up shop." Excluding Bourne, the towns of Barnstable, Falmouth, Harwich, Sandwich, and Yarmouth have each established moratoriums. [State House News Service/Cape Cod Today]

FALMOUTH - The latest plan to balance the books, create clean energy and somehow please neighbors of the Falmouth turbines rests on jubilee by way of Boston: "Underlying the town's plan to run its two wind turbines for 16 hours a day is an assumption — a rather large one, the selectmen acknowledge — that the state will forgive nearly $6 million in loans and other funding used during their construction." [Cape Cod Times]

HYANNIS - The Commonwealth was handing out $14.5M yesterday to hospitals and health centers "to provide more effective and cost effective care." Cape Cod's Duffy Health Center, Inc. will receive $140,736 for "developing fully integrated delivery systems, specifically medical home transformation." [Barnstable-Hyannis Patch]
