The Skinny: This Mizner-style oceanfront cottage was built in 1931 by Francis Abreu, an architect who rose to prominence during the Florida real estate boom of the '20s and '30s, for the playwright Eugene O'Neill and his wife Carlotta. The O'Neill's christened the house Casa Genotta (a combination of their first names) and lived there from 1932 to 1937, during which O'Neill wrote his only comedy, Ah, Wilderness! That might speak to what a happy-looking little place the house is, with its twisted coral columns, cypress beamed ceilings, leaded glass windows, and library built to resemble the captain's quarters of a ship, where O'Neill did his work in the mornings and then strolled down to beach in the afternoons.
