Oof: the Santa Monica, Calif., City Council has rejected Rem Koolhaas's design for the Plaza at Santa Monica, an enormous mixed-use development that would have marked the Dutch architect's first big L.A.-area project. The reason? "It may be the most perfect project on this site. But does that make it the right project?" Well, at least Koolhaas has the Miami Beach Convention Center.
