Clifftop Muennig Modern on the Big Sur Coast Wants $6.5M

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Big Sur, Calif.
Price: $6,500,000
The Skinny: Built in 1998 by Big Sur's favorite eco-architect, Mickey Muennig, this 2,679-square-foot house sits right at the edge of a cliff, offering a 270-degree view of the coast. Like most of Muennig's creations, it effortlessly blends into its surroundings—the roof is composed of undulating waves of wood, while the walls and floors are stone—yet remains distinctly modern. "The comparisons to Frank Lloyd Wright," according to a piece from the Washington Times, "are inescapable." The two concrete support pillars on which the house is set double as fireplaces, and the outdoor space includes a patio deck accessible by a vertigo-inducing skyway. The asking price also towers, at $6.5M.
