Scrumptious 'Birthday Cake Castle' in Florida Wants $2.5M

New, 10 comments

On the market for the first time in nearly two decades and asking $2.5M, is the the very, uh, sweet Birthday Cake Castle in Lake Worth, Fla. Despite the saccharine title, the Mediterranean-style home's cake-like qualities aren't all that transparent—especially when compared the other confectionary castles out there. Still, local legend says that in 1925, when the place was first built by Addison Mizner's protégé Sherman Childs, two birthday candle-like pillars were installed on either side of the grand entrance, as were thick plaster interior swirls made to "resemble the icing on the cake," thus earning the estate the moniker. Besides these quirky details, the 7,074-square-foot, six-bedroom manse offers remarkable details like an octagonal turret, a impressively grand front stairway, vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and even carved wood and silver inlaid doors. Outside, the property boasts 135 feet of waterfront and a private, gated entrance. Some may find the decor just a tad too stuffy, but please, have a look:
