Taos Ski Valley Will Get a New Chairlift to Kachina Peak

After making headlines with the sale of the resort of conservationist Louis Bacon,Taos Ski Valley will be revving up the construction trucks this summer with a new chairlift to access Kachina Peak. Previously accessible only to those willing to hike 45 minutes, Kachina Peak offers some of the best terrain in New Mexico. The new triple chair will rise 1,100 vertical feet in five minutes and top out at 12,450 feet. Currently the steep hike-to terrain is rarely open, but resort officials say they will increase ski patrol in the area and perform more avalanche mediation to increase access. The expansion will be ready for next season.
