The Skinny: Though he is primarily known as the foremost purveyor of fine modern residential boxes in the greater DC area, architect Robert Gurney's renovations can be just as interesting as his original designs. This condo in the Dupont Circle district of the nation's Capital, for example, has Gurney's glassy fingertips all over it, completely transforming the original 1990 conversion of a former naval officer club into a light-filled modern home. To accomplish that, Gurney had to sort out where to place his trademark floor-to-ceiling glass in order to flood the vintage-1944 semicircular building with natural light, visiting the home repeatedly in a montage-worthy effort to map every conceivable angle of the sun. The work paid off, and then some: the three-bedroom, four-bathroom home not only gets light through its exterior windows, but interior glass walls and ceilings let the sun reach every corner of the unit. The home, which Gurney renovated in 2007, is asking $2.75M.
