Space Odyssey Interior in a Glossy Box Returns at $5.25M

Little did Airbnb know that when they recreated the war room from Dr. Strangelove in their San Francisco HQ, they were in good company when it came to decorative Kubrick references. Enter this modernist Bell Canyon abode, which—as Curbed LA pointed out when it was listed for $3.9M back in 2010, three years after it was built—has a few rooms that bear a striking resemblance to the orbital station from 2001: A Space Odyssey, memorable for its bright-red Djinn chairs and Eero Saarinen pedestal tables. For at least a year, this six-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot home lingered on the market with nary a markdown, but now it's back with a vengeance, as well as a rather ludicrous bump in price, asking $5.25M. According to the listing, "entering this home will energize you," and if eye-popping red-lacquer kitchens, bowling alleys, glass-tiled pools, and backyard grottos are your thing, maybe this is true, but it'd be hard to justify the fact that it was recently available for nearly half that. If nothing else, colorful modernist furniture set against a stark white background makes for good perusal:
