Lavish Manse By Plaid-Happy Diamond Baratta Asks $9.5M

New, 4 comments

Sprawling across four manicured acres, this extremely grand 10,397-square-foot mansion in New Canaan, Conn. hit the market for the first time this past October, asking $9.495M. Designed by the famously bold, audacious NYC-based interiors duo Diamond Baratta before William Diamond retired, the seven-bedroom stone-and-shingle estate presents one of the design team's (slightly) toned-down projects—considering that their work was characterized by layered-on pattern, tartans, medallion rugs to the extreme. Despite the restraint, though, the listing still manages to serve up tons of patterns, lush wallpaper—in some rooms, on the ceiling—and, of course, a heaping dose of plaid. A certain cherry-red billiards table in the 3,000-square-foot basement even looks to be a carbon copy of one found in one of Diamond Baratta's previous projects. Amenities inside the "spirited home," as it's described in the brokerbabble, include a covered exterior porch and firepit, a large heated pool, and a spa. Photos below:
