Brace, Truro's flower cottages have hit the market. Officially known as the Days' Cottages, the 22 beachfront icons have spent over eight decades as summer rentals and are no doubt "the most painted and photographed cottage colony on the Outer Cape."
The cute cottages and general store have been owned and managed by the Days family since they were built in 1931 (check out the complete history on their web site). Back then, "they went for $5 a night and $50 a week during the season, or $3 a night and $15 a week during the spring and fall." By 1981, rentals were "$47 a night or $525 a week during the season, and $30 a night or $200 a week during spring and fall." The 2014 rates began at $190 a night and $1300 a week during the high season, and as low as $110 a night or $750 per week during the shoulders. As of this week, the flowery 420-square-footers are condos available for the picking (sorry). Here's how the listing sums up the "once in a lifetime opportunity" on Beach Point:
Each two bedroom seasonal cottage, sits on the edge of Cape Cod Bay and a private beach with 180 degree views, including the lights of Provincetown and gorgeous reflected sunset skies over the bay. The cottages, each named for a flower, are known throughout the world. The look of the property is protected by town and condominium covenants and can never be altered, which adds enduring value. The common land includes a sweeping beach and a boat launch. Each cottage has a new roof, new windows and doors, some new kitchen appliances and new flooring.
In order to avoid a fine from the Department of Redundancy Department, just threeAll of the colony's waterfront abodes have been officially listed (check them out from west-to-east/left-to-right here) but they are all available and two have already found buyers! Phlox, cottage number 2, and Poppy, cottage number 3, are each asking $399,000. As for the end unit Daisy, cottage number 1, she's looking for $409,000. Happy picking!
