Someone Buy Mel Gibson's $30M Villa and 500-Acre Jungle

New, 11 comments

For some reason, no one is snapping up actor Mel Gibson's $29.75M Costa Rican villa, which is totally weird considering the property comes with 500 acres of private jungle. Are there really not any other celebrities who desire to obscure their fame in a lush rain forest? Maybe Costa Rica is not as trendy as Hawaii? Anyway, though it has been languishing on the market for a year—it's seemingly the most expensive house there by a landslide—Gibson's Spanish Colonial-style, three-villa complex on Playa Barrigona is actually pretty fantastic, what with its vaulted ceilings and Costa Rican wood, glorious arches and ochre paint. Obviously there are multiple verandas and a white sand beach, too. "Rarely marked on maps, Playa Barrigona is such a haven of solitude and serenity that Olive Ridley sea turtles travel thousands of miles across the Pacific each year to lay their eggs on this beach," claims the listing. Did you hear that?! Baby. Sea. Turtles.
