John Lautner's Storied Silvertop Estate Sells for $8.55M

New, 1 comment

In August, famous SoCal modernist John Lautner's gloriously concrete Silvertop residence in L.A. went on the market for the first time since 1974, and unsurprisingly—given the architect's popularity with celebrities and preservationists alike—it had no problem finding a new owner right away, selling for $8.55M. That, astute mathematical minds will notice, is 14 percent over asking, which seems to reinforce rumor has it rich people were throwing bids around willy-nilly.

A true Space Age masterpiece, the Silvertop began construction in 1957 (the year of Sputnik!) and finally completed in 1976. The 4,721-square-foot home has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a den, library, and guesthouse. Sitting on 1.26 acres, the property also comes with a tennis court and infinity pool, surrounded by panoramic views of the San Gabriel mountain, the Pacific Ocean, and downtown L.A.

The buyer, for now, remains a mystery. But stay tuned for property records!
