Bruce Willis Drops $9M to Join Celebrity Coven in Bedford, N.Y.

New, 6 comments

Professional badass Bruce Willis just plunked down $9M on an 8,000-square-foot shingle-sided mansion on 14 acres—and as a result gained entry to the exclusive celebrity coven of Bedford, New York. Let's imagine it thusly: leader of the group Martha Stewart approved his application and gave him some guidance on his house-hunt. The country estate that Willis purchased with his wife, Emma Heming, is very Martha; just check out its "mature" gardens, its wine cellar, and its tennis court. (Unlike Stewart's abode, it does not appear to have its own basket room.)

Lesser coven members Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, the recently reunited couple who just swapped Bedford homes after nurturing the "lovely orchid" of their marriage, and junior members Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, who own a yellow clapboard house there, probably got a vote as well. Willis is in, and man oh man it must feel fine to play on the East Coast varsity team of the suburban celebrity real estate elite.

While clearly an enthusiast, the Die Hard actor has a somewhat tormented relationship with expensive real estate, and just this year had to mercilessly PriceChop the Sun Valley, Idaho estate he's been trying to sell since 2011 (no luck yet, even though it's now half the price it once was) down to $8.8M. Willis finally managed to offload his Beverly Hills mansion a few months ago, but he had to accept $5.5M less than he originally wanted for it.

An hour from New York City, Willis' latest purchase looks like a grand-slam of an investment, though he will now have to watch out for those drones Martha uses to spy on her party guests.
