In Detroit's tax auction for a "blight bundle" of about 6,300 foreclosed properties, one person, now identified as developer Herb Strather, just completed a successful bid of $3M for the whole package. Strather already made the deadline for a 10 percent down payment on his bid, but will now face the difficult task of either demolishing the properties within six months or come up with robust redevelopment plans.
