'Tis the season for the Cape & Islands' most insanely expensive listings to find buyers. In September, Nantucket saw its priciest sale of the year when a whopping $20,900,000 was paid for 33 Squam Road. Last month, Cape Cod joined the party when Osterville's 52 Ship's Eagle Lane traded hands for a hefty $13,200,000. Now, Martha's Vineyard has it's own eight-figure sale to add to the noteworthy sold column.
The 2.7 acre waterfront spread features a main residence and carriage house with 7BR, 10.5BA in 10,061-square-feet. Naturally, the mansion checks most of the expected luxury boxes, including: a gourmet kitchen, billiard room, master suite with office, and a finished lower level with multiple game areas, plus fitness and media rooms. Outside, there are decks, porches and balconies galore, a swimming pool with surrounding patio, and a "courtyard, formal gardens, expansive lawn to water's edge and a deep-water pier." The property last changed hands in 2004 for $7,750,000 and returned to the market this year with a $19,500,000 asking price. This week, a buyer paid $15,000,000 for Edgartown's 295 Katama Road. While this is the Vineyard's most expensive home sale of 2014, someone with extraordinarily deep pockets could always swoop in and buy the island's $108,000,000 state park offering before the year is out. Here's hoping.
