Columbia's New Medical Tower is Looking Kinda Awkward

New, 8 comments

Judging by these new construction photos, the crazy tower New York starchitects Diller Scofidio + Renfro has designed for the Columbia University Medical Center is definitely going through its awkward teen phase. If reality delivers anything close to what initial renderings promised, the 14-story landmark will eventually show off fancy cascading ramped floors that take up an entire façade. For now though, the recently topped out building looks like a looney jumble of concrete slabs and orange construction mesh. The tower is expected to complete in 2016, and there sure is a lot to do before then.
