Think Vail has nothing to offer design-wise but Bavarian Wonderland? The Sebastian- a Timbers Resort property, and one of our 38 Essential Ski Town Hotels- will change your mind. Although the mountain-chic boutique hotel opened in early 2011, it's wrapping up a significant renovation of its 84 guest rooms, slated for completion December 13. Check out the deets, here.
The Sebastian's "reconceptualized in-room experience" includes a full redesign of all rooms that includes various smart amenities, as well as a new category of cushy one-and-two bedroom executive suites. With business, as well as long-term luxury travelers in mind, there are also seven residential suites with full kitchens and fireplaces available for nightly rental.
The rooms have been upgraded to incorporate luxurious textiles, chrome-accented leather headboards, and an ice blue, white, and silver palette. Built-in shelving units hold books and travel-themed knickknacks, as well as provide multiple, eye-level outlets. There's an iPod Home system and flat screen TV's in and above the sleek, burnished wood media centers, while the sedate bathrooms feature marble, and cream-colored textured wallpaper. When you're ready to venture out of your glam digs, hit up Frost, the hotel bar, or signature restaurant Leonora for elegant Mediterranean fare.
Curbed Ski already adored The Sebastian for its friendly staff, sexy, mountain-view hot tubs and pool, and ideal Village location. But what really rocks are the library and public art displays. The former, located in the lobby, consists of floor-to-ceiling shelves stuffed with gorgeous coffee table books, and cushy chairs in which to peruse them.
The Sebastian is acclaimed for its extensive collection of modern art; this is Vail, after all, where there are more galleries than you can shake a ski pole at. The works of renown abstract Mexican artist Manuel Felguérez Barra- a member of the Generación de la Ruptura, a new generation of artists who broke from the muralist movement in the mid-20th century- are prominent throughout the hotel- providing welcome respite from the tired ski town sculptural standards like elk/bears/creepy kids on skates/Kokopelli. Art, schmart (amenities)...the new Sebastian is sounding good.
