A Whistler Town Council just cleared the way for a new type of 'pod-style' accommodation in the heart of Whistler village. Plans are in the works to renovate a property on Sunrise Ally that currently houses 9 timeshare units and turn it into 13 smaller shared "pods" with beds, bathrooms, showers, ski and bike storage, laundry, and a cafe. While pod lodging is common in Japan and has even made it to New York City, Curbed Ski believes this is the first of its type in ski country. [Pique]
