Meet the priciest pad to sell on Nantucket in 2014. While the estate of the late Richard Mellon Scaife, billionaire heir to the Mellon fortune/philanthropist/owner and publisher of the Pittsburgh Tribune and Review, was not on the open market, 9 Kimball Avenue recently sold for an incredible $27,160,000.
Per Jennifer Shalley, Windwalker Real Estate's Research Director, "This transaction marks the highest sale of 2014 and the second highest residential transaction in Nantucket's history, a title still held by the $27.5 million sale of 11 & 15 Cathcart Road in 2010." However, the Inquirer and Mirror refers to the sale as "the single-largest residential real-estate transaction in island history..." Either way, the 1.57 acre waterfront compound on the island's north shore features a 6,226-square-foot house with 5BR, 6.5BA and a record-setting price tag. So there's that.
