Restoration Hardware Watch

Restoration Hardware founder Stephen Gordon opened up about his company's rusty caliper business humble beginnings. It began in 1979, when he was restoring his Queen Anne Victorian. "I couldn't find the hardware, moldings, and fittings I needed," he says. He saw the hole in the market. "I put a binder together with photo-copied vendor catalogue pages, and had a $30 sign made saying restoration hardware that I hung on our porch. Someone told me if I doubled the price of everything, I'd be okay." [Fortune]
