Designed in the early '70s by Reuben Lane, this retro-futuristic successor to the Mediterranean villa has since gained a reputation as one of the preeminent architectural oddities of the beachside Sydney suburb of Cronulla. Lane built the place in homage to the style of his mentor, the late, great Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, but it also has an obscure link to a pretty high-profile piece of local architecture: Its four bathrooms' original tiles are sourced from the same suppliers as the Sydney Opera House. Named the Apollo Gate, it's also known simply as 'the spaceship house,' and as one listing agent claims, there's "not a visible square angle" inside. It sold last May for $3.2M, so the current ask of $3.5M isn't too outrageous, especially since it was just given an eight-month renovation, after which the spa and the spiraling red cedar ceiling in the living room look pretty groovy.
