Newspaper magnate Rupert Murdoch just dropped $57.25M on the top four floors of NYC's One Madison tower, a purchase that encompasses the building's "crown jewel" triplex penthouse. Murdoch, who not so long ago doled out a casual $30M for a vineyard in L.A., now owns a 7,000-square-foot penthouse proper and an additional 3,000 square feet in a single-story residence just below, on the 56th floor. Featured: a double-height great room and a wraparound terrace "with uninterrupted cinematic views of Manhattan, river to river and from the World Trade Center to the uptown tip of Madison Avenue," according to One Madison's press release, which the PR agency sent out scant minutes after The Wall Street Journal published the story. (Murdoch made sure the Journal, which he owns, got the exclusive? Shocking.) As was the case when news broke that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen laid down $14M for a piece of One Madison, the fact that the building's interiors are totally raw and unfinished means we only get renderings of what Murdoch's new place could look like.
