$500 Million Homewood Redevelopment To Bring Big Changes

A lawsuit between environmental groups and JMA Ventures, owners of Homewood Mountain Resort on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, has been settled, paving the way for a massive expansion of the resort. JMA Ventures plans to spend $500 million creating a 5-star destination resort. New plans for the North Base include a fancy boutique hotel, employee housing, up to 15,000 square feet of retail space, and new ski and lodging parking. The South Base will be redeveloped to include 47 condos, 48 ski-in/ski-out "chalets," and extensive landscaping. All of this makes one thing clear, Homewood Mountain as we've come to know it will soon cease to exist. That's not entirely a bad thing as the resort has operated at a loss for several years. But after JMA Ventures is finished, Homewood will be something entirely different. Old timers will reminisce about the good ol' days, so ski Homewood while you still can because time is running out.
